There is a great movie about this very suject. A thrilling coming of age movie, Humboldt County. A young "book smart" student is failing his courses because of his disconnect with human relations. He takes an un-known road trip to the marijuana farmers of Humboldt County Ca. with a fling.

Well, I am under the impression that many males in medical school and recently graduated from medical school are also taking more time off for family matters, work less hours and take less overnight call too. I think we're just beginning to figure out what the women figured out before us! Simply put, if we are expected to work more for less, I don't think it's hard to imagine why many doctors, male and female, have decided to work more so they can live, rather than live to work. It's the work/life balance. I discovered I enjoy life more making a bit less but having the free time to spend with family, travel, and friends is more fulfilling at this point in my life. That said, I miss direct patient care, but I don't miss the increased hassles and financial woes that have befallen my profession. Tray

Dear Dr. Dunaway:

Old adage of 'ignorance is bliss.
When I asked a gastrologist about probiotics as an alternative to Proton Pump Inhibitors, the answer "no. None in my office" but when I said yogurt I was told that Licorice would be a good alternative.
Nothing synthetic by bid pharma came about till it was derived from plants or soil for therapeutic use by use of Mass spectrometery, Electrophoresis or Chromatography and then worked on.
Whether you want to lose wt., lower LDL, control Blood glucose The poly saccharides in the mucilage of Psyllium husk works just as well and had been a part of Auyerveda for 2500 years.
I realize the economics of the healthcare/Pill business but have all these dolt MD's totally lost it... everytime a study is out showing the benefits of Complimentary or Alternative products, some goofy one will comment that more study is neeeded. Like Hell there are stats of over 2000 years to show that these products work with minimal if any adverse effects. What more do we need?
Thanks for your comments.

He is now leading a better quality of life thank you to the early intervention and evaluation of his slightly different complanints of pain

Some argue that the physician shortage is partially due to the increased number of female doctors. They claim they have less longevity than their male counterparts, take more time off for maternity and family matters, and work less hours and take less overnight call.

<a href="http://brainblogger.com" rel="nofollow">Brain Blogger</a> recently <a href="http://brainblogger.com/2008/04/30/female-physicians-responsible-for-shortage-of-doctors/" rel="nofollow">wrote about this issue</a>. We would love to hear your commentary. Thank you.

Sincerely,
Shaheen
